This guide explains what xStocks are, how they differ from traditional shares, why traders use them, and what to check before trading.

Data as of October 1, 2026. Perpetual contracts are complex instruments and may be liquidated rapidly. Funding rates and mark prices change without notice. Leverage magnifies gains and losses. Fees, network costs, and slippage reduce returns. Past performance is not indicative of future results.

They let you gain exposure to familiar assets like Apple, NVIDIA, or the S&P 500 without opening a separate brokerage account or waiting for the stock market to open. Each xStock is designed to track the value of its corresponding stock or ETF and is backed one-to-one by the underlying asset held in regulated custody.

What are xStocks?

xStocks are tokenized versions of publicly traded stocks and ETFs. The “x” at the end of the ticker distinguishes the tokenized asset from the traditional stock or ETF:

  • AAPLx represents Apple

  • NVDAx represents NVIDIA

  • METAx represents Meta

  • SPYx represents the SPDR S&P 500 ETF

In simple terms, xStocks bring familiar stock-market assets onto blockchain infrastructure, where they can be held and traded like other onchain assets.

How are xStocks different from traditional shares?

xStocks follow the value of traditional stocks and ETFs, but they are not the same as holding shares through a brokerage. When you buy a traditional share, you normally become a shareholder of the company, which may include rights such as voting. Holding an xStock gives you tokenized economic exposure to the underlying asset, but not the same shareholder rights.

The key distinction: an xStock tracks the economic value of a stock or ETF, but it is a tokenized product rather than a traditional brokerage share.

Why would someone use xStocks?

There are a few practical reasons:

  • Unified access — instead of keeping stocks in one app and crypto in another, you can access supported xStocks alongside crypto from one Nado account.

  • Fractional access — you don’t need enough money to buy one full unit. If a tokenized share is worth $600, you may be able to buy just $50 or $100 worth.

  • Onchain portability — xStocks can be transferred and used across compatible onchain applications rather than staying locked in one brokerage system.

Can you trade xStocks outside normal market hours?

Traditional U.S. exchanges are only open during set hours on business days. Because xStocks exist onchain, supported venues may allow trading outside those hours, including around-the-clock access in some markets. This gives more flexibility to react to news and events when traditional exchanges are closed. However, trading outside normal hours can involve lower liquidity, wider gaps between buy and sell prices, greater volatility, and prices that temporarily differ from the traditional market.

What can you do with xStocks on Nado?

Supported xStocks can be bought and sold through Nado’s spot market — select an asset like AAPLx, NVDAx, or SPYx and place a market or limit order. Eligible holdings may also contribute collateral value within Nado’s Portfolio Margin system, meaning an xStock you hold may help support other activity without moving funds to a separate account. The exact collateral value may be lower than the market value, and eligibility can vary.

What’s the difference between spot xStocks and xStock perpetuals?

This is an important distinction:

xStock (Spot)

You buy the tokenized asset You own the xStock No leverage by default

xStock Perpetual

You trade its price movement You don't own the xStock May use leverage; carries funding and liquidation risk

Always check whether the selected market is labeled Spot or Perpetual before placing an order.

What should you check before buying an xStock?

Before buying, check four things: confirm the ticker and underlying company or ETF; confirm whether you’re buying the spot asset or trading a perpetual; check the current liquidity, price, fees, and trading hours; and confirm that xStocks are available in your region. xStocks are not available in every jurisdiction, and access may depend on local eligibility rules.

Key takeaways

  • xStocks are tokenized representations of stocks and ETFs, backed one-to-one by the underlying asset.

  • They track economic value but don’t provide traditional shareholder rights like voting.

  • They offer unified access, fractional buying, and trading beyond normal market hours.

  • Spot xStocks mean owning the tokenized asset; xStock perpetuals mean trading its price.

  • Availability varies by region — always confirm eligibility first.
